University of Windsor

University of Windsor serves as a public research university which emphasizes student learning and operates in the Canadian city of Windsor. The campus occupies a beautiful 51-hectare area which extends to the southernmost point of Canada and provides a view of the Detroit River and the Detroit skyline in Michigan. The university functions as an international academic and cultural exchange center because its location next to North America's most active international border crossing creates an environment that attracts international students. The institution uses its Latin motto Bonitatem, Disciplinam, Scientiam to express its commitment to "Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge" which serves as the foundation for its position as a fundamental component of intellectual and social activities in the Windsor-Essex area.

The institution began in 1857 when Assumption College was established as a Roman Catholic school by the Society of Jesus. The college developed through multiple major changes during the next 100 years starting with its creation of a permanent relationship with the University of Western Ontario and ending with its transformation into Assumption University in 1956. The University of Windsor attained its public non-denominational status on December 19, 1962, which enabled it to take over the campus on July 1, 1963. The university has grown through multiple expansion phases which included restoring its historical stone structures and establishing dedicated academic centers in Canterbury and Iona and Holy Redeemer.
