York University

York University operates as a major public research center in Toronto Ontario which ranks as one of the largest Canadian universities. The university demonstrates its dedication to creating an inclusive academic space through its universitywide campuses which include the large Keele Campus located in northern Toronto and the bilingual Glendon Campus situated in midtown Toronto. The university maintains a strong reputation through its "Tentanda Via" (The Way Must Be Tried) motto which embodies its dedication to persistent efforts and its acceptance of nontraditional methods. The university established itself as an independent institution in 1959 when the York University Act established it as a non-denominational school that operated under the University of Toronto. The school opened its first classes in 1960 at Falconer Hall with a small group of students before it moved to Glendon Hall in 1961. The establishment of Keele Campus in 1965 allowed York University to operate as an independent institution which served the needs of the rapidly growing population who required higher education in Ontario. During the next several decades, the university expanded its operations by acquiring historic institutions such as Osgoode Hall Law School while establishing international locations and constructing a new contemporary campus in Markham.
