Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a private research deemed university located in Katpadi in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.
The history of VIT University dates back to 1984 when it was founded as Vellore Engineering College (VEC) by Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government. VEC was started with just four undergraduate engineering programs and 250 students. Over the years, VEC grew rapidly and expanded its offerings to include postgraduate and research programs, as well as programs in other disciplines such as science, humanities, and management.
In 2001, VEC was upgraded to a deemed university and was renamed Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). VIT has since become one of the most prestigious universities in India. VIT is known for its strong academic programs, world-class infrastructure, and vibrant campus life. It has a strong alumni network that includes many successful entrepreneurs and professionals.
