Arlington Baptist University is a private, Christ-centered institution located in Arlington, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Its mission is deeply rooted in engaging, equipping, and empowering authentic Biblical Christ-followers, placing a distinct emphasis on integrating spiritual formation and professional preparation. The university, which is the educational institution for the World Baptist Fellowship, offers both undergraduate and graduate programs across various fields that all taught from a Christian worldview. Residential students are required to attend daily chapel services, reflecting the institution's commitment to creating a highly intentional, faith-based learning and living environment.
The university's origins trace back to 1939, when it was founded by J. Frank Norris, a prominent Baptist minister, as the Fundamental Baptist Bible Institute. It began with a small class of 16 students, holding sessions in an upper room of the First Baptist Church of Fort Worth, with the primary goal of training ministers and missionaries for the World Fundamental Baptist Fellowship. The institution underwent several name changes—including Bible Baptist Seminary—before adopting the name Arlington Baptist College and relocating to its present campus in Arlington in 1955. The current campus is particularly notable for being the site of the former Top O' Hill Terrace casino, and the university has preserved historic features like its original guardhouse and tea garden. The institution officially transitioned to its current name, signifying its academic growth, in 2017.
This university stands as a committed, faith-driven institution dedicated to producing "Worldchangers" who will impact their professions and communities for Christ. By blending a solid liberal arts foundation with specialized, Bible-centered vocational training, the university prepares its graduates for immediate entry into ministries, education, and business roles. Its small size fosters a tight-knit community where a high degree of faculty engagement and personalized support is possible. The university continues to uphold its original mission, providing a supportive, spiritually formative environment that is uniquely suited for students who desire an education where Christian faith and professional excellence are completely intertwined.
