Assumption University

Assumption University is a private, Roman Catholic liberal arts university located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded by the Augustinians of the Assumption, its mission is deeply rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, emphasizing the integration of faith and reason. Initially a preparatory school and junior college, the institution was named Assumption College. A significant turning point in its history occurred in 1953 when a devastating fire destroyed the original campus; the community rallied and rebuilt at the current location in the suburb of Salisbury Street. The institution began admitting women into its undergraduate programs in 1973. Reflecting the expansion of its graduate programs and the maturity of its offerings, the institution officially changed its name to Assumption University in 2020.
