Dean College

Dean College is a private, coeducational college located in Franklin, Massachusetts, approximately 30 miles from both Boston and Providence. The college was founded in 1865 by Dr. Oliver Dean as Dean Academy, a universalist preparatory school intended to provide a high-quality education in a local setting. The institution officially opened its doors in 1866 and quickly became known for its rigorous standards and community values. Over the next century, the academy evolved to meet the changing needs of the American educational landscape, becoming Dean Junior College in 1941 and focusing on the first two years of the collegiate experience. In 1994, the institution achieved four-year status and became Dean College, significantly expanding its bachelor’s degree offerings while retaining its historic commitment to mentorship and student success that began with its founding more than 150 years ago.
