Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College
Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College is a private, single-purpose nursing college located in St. Louis, Missouri. Situated on the prestigious Washington University Medical Campus, the school is a leader in nursing education, offering a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral academic offerings. As a part of the BJC HealthCare system, the college provides students with direct access to one of the largest and most technologically advanced clinical environments in the nation. It is committed to producing "exceptional nurse leaders" through a learner-centered environment that emphasizes research, scholarship, and high-impact clinical practice.
The college represents a historic merger of two deep-rooted St. Louis nursing legacies. Its origins date back to 1902 with the founding of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, one of the first schools in the nation accredited by the National League of Nursing. Parallel to this, the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing was established in 1955 after Washington University closed its own nursing program. For decades, these two schools operated independently as premier diploma-granting institutions. In 2005, the schools merged to form the Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing and Allied Health. A transformative gift in 2007 from philanthropist and local businessman Alvin Goldfarb led to the institution's current name and the construction of Goldfarb Hall, a state-of-the-art $40 million facility that serves as the heart of the campus.
Goldfarb School of Nursing stands as a powerhouse of healthcare education, blending over a century of legacy with the resources of a modern medical titan. By integrating its curriculum with the high-volume clinical environment of the BJC HealthCare system, the college ensures its graduates are not only technically proficient but also prepared for leadership in complex healthcare systems. Its history of innovation—from being one of the first accredited nursing schools to its current status as a top-tier research institution—secures its reputation as an essential destination for the next generation of nursing professionals.
