Gordon College

Gordon College is a private, multi-denominational Christian liberal arts college located in Wenham, Massachusetts, on Boston’s historic North Shore. As the only nationally ranked Christian liberal arts college in New England, Gordon is dedicated to the integration of "faith and learning," providing a rigorous academic environment where students are encouraged to pursue bold intellectual inquiry within a biblical framework. The college serves a residential community of approximately 1,600 students on a scenic 485-acre wooded campus that features its own lake and extensive trail system, all located just three miles from the Atlantic Ocean and 25 miles north of Boston.

The college was founded in 1889 as the Boston Missionary Training Institute by the Reverend Dr. Adoniram Judson (A. J.) Gordon, a prominent Boston pastor and social reformer who believed that all individuals—regardless of gender or race—should have access to theological education if they felt a calling to serve. After Gordon's death in 1895, the school adopted his name and eventually evolved into a broader liberal arts institution. In 1955, the college moved from the urban environment of Boston to its current suburban campus in Wenham, which was formerly a massive private estate. Another significant milestone occurred in 1985 when Gordon merged with Barrington College of Rhode Island, incorporating Barrington's legacy of service and advocacy into its own institutional identity.

Gordon College stands as a unique intellectual and spiritual anchor in one of the most secularized regions of the United States. By combining a centuries-old commitment to the Gospel with a modern, career-focused liberal arts curriculum, the college prepares its graduates to be "men and women of character" who are ready to lead in diverse professional fields. Its blend of rigorous "Moderation" milestones, high-impact outdoor education, and elite global programs ensures that Gordon remains a premier destination for students who seek to deepen their faith while engaging with the most complex challenges of the 21st century.
