Great Lakes Christian College is a private, four-year Christian institution located in Delta Township, Michigan, just outside of Lansing. Affiliated with the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, the college is a specialized institution primarily focused on the arts and sciences with a foundational emphasis on biblical studies. GLCC operates on a mission to "glorify God by preparing students to be servant-leaders in the church and world," serving as a dedicated training ground for those entering ministry as well as various professional fields. The 47-acre suburban campus provides an intentionally close-knit environment where approximately 200 students benefit from a high degree of personal mentorship and a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
The college was founded in 1949 as Great Lakes Bible College by Ralph R. Woodard, who also served as its first president. The institution’s humble beginnings took place in a log cabin at Rock Lake, near Vestaburg, Michigan, with an inaugural class of only 12 students. Seeking more room for growth and the advantages of an urban setting, the college purchased a farm in 1951 before eventually moving to the historic Dodge Mansion in Lansing in 1958. In 1972, the college relocated to its current campus in Delta Township, and in 1992, it officially changed its name to Great Lakes Christian College to reflect a broader academic scope that includes both ministerial and vocational degrees.
Great Lakes Christian College remains a steadfast pillar of the Restoration Movement tradition, prioritizing spiritual formation as the bedrock of academic success. By maintaining its small-scale, relational approach to education, the college ensures that its graduates are not just professionals, but "servant-leaders" equipped with a deep theological foundation. Its journey from a rural log cabin to a modern suburban campus reflects its enduring relevance and its ability to adapt to the needs of the church and society. It continues to be a premier choice for students seeking an education where faith is the lens through which all learning is viewed.
