Founded in 1861 as Territorial University, UW is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast. The university's main campus is located in Seattle's University District and the university also has campuses in Tacoma and Bothell. UW was founded in 1861 and threatened to shut down three times during its early years due to low enrollments or lack of funding.
