Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University, which people usually call Dal, functions as a major public research institution in Nova Scotia Canada, operating from its main campuses in Halifax's active coastal area. The university functions as an essential research center for the Atlantic provinces because it belongs to the U15 group which includes Canada's top research universities. The educational institution displays an impressive combination of historical stone buildings and contemporary structures which create a space for academic research that attracts scholars from around the world to the Atlantic Ocean waterfront.

The 1818 establishment of the university occurred through George Ramsay's efforts who held the title of 9th Earl of Dalhousie and worked as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia during that period. Ramsay established the college to offer non-denominational higher education through accessible educational methods which he based on the University of Edinburgh's educational principles. The institution experienced initial difficulties which caused it to shut down for multiple years during the mid-19th century until it reopened in 1863 and then expanded through different mergers to become the current large educational institution which exists today.
